Medium, What’s Missing?

So I’ve read the tips and hints to be successful on Medium.com. I’ve posted a total of two stories. I used the hints on one of them.

I’ve shared the link to that story. on Facebook and Twitter, I included an image, I italicized “quotable” phrases, and changed up the look with a list. I’ve read others’ stories and followed them and clapped if I enjoyed what was written.

I get that not every story is feature-worthy. Maybe mine isn’t. I don’t know because none of my readers have commented. I think I’m up to 67 reads right now, which doesn’t seem like much. I published a week or so ago.

I’m sure I am just like everyone else when I say I think my story is just the best ever and the editors should have been jumping at the chance to feature it. We all think that, right?

I wrote from the heart and friends who have read my story are actually raving about it and telling me I should write more. They have gone on and on about it to my husband, saying that I should be writing a book and getting published.

I know that my topic was on-target because I see featured stories every day on the same topic. Maybe you’re thinking, “Well, there’s the problem. It isn’t original.”

I believe that it is. I teach middle school and I wrote about my experiences while teaching during the pandemic. It’s my personal view and while I’m not one to “toot my own horn,” I know that people are interested. Just look at social media and featured personal-interest stories on the news.

So what gives Medium? What am I missing? Trust me, I welcome advice and constructive criticism. Teach me!
